RALLYING THE TROOPS: The Timm family goes back in...

Long weekend fun at Westfield Heritage Village
Arts & Entertainment
May 16, 2008
Local families looking for activities during the Victoria Day weekend can step back in time for a glimpse of 18th Century Britain.

British Isles Day takes place at Westfield Heritage Village on Sunday, May 18 and features folk music and dance, historical military encampments, a re-enactment of the Battle of Culloden, at 2 p.m.

Performers for the event, which is sponsored in part by the Mill Race Fold Society, include Cambridge Splinters, Geoff Lewis, Tethera, Whirly Gig and Jean Mills and Angie Stock.

The battle re-enactment allows guests to join Bonnie Prince Charlie as they witness the final clash between the French-supported Jacobites and the Hanoverian British government in the 1745 Jacobite Rising.

The events of 1745 led to the Highland Clearances - and the early pattern of Scottish migration to North America. Bonnie Prince Charlie (Prince Charles Edward Stuart) led to the Scottish rebellion of 1745 and will be in command at the battle re-enactment at Westfield.

Westfield Heritage Village is located on Regional Road 552 (Kirkwall Road) in Rockton. Admission to British Isles Day is $9.50 for adults and $5.50 for youth 6-12 years of age. Children 5 years and under will be admitted free.
