RED AND WHITE: A young Canada Day reveler models appropriate patriotic attire at last year's local festivities.
The Optimist Club of Greensville is gearing up for its annual day in the park at Webster's Falls. The fun starts at 10 a.m. and runs through to 4 p.m. Organized activities include children's games, clowns, face painting and balloons.
Featured entertainment includes Highland dancers, martial arts demonstrations, a Formula 1 Grand Prix race car display and more. The Dundas Concert Band will be on hand to provide live music from 1-3 p.m.
The Optimists' trailer will be on site, with club members grilling up hot food, and ice cream will be available.
Further west, the town of Lynden is planning to celebrate the country's 141st birthday in style.
The festivities kick off at 11 a.m. with a Canada Day parade down Main Street (registration is at 10 a.m), ending up at the Lions park on Governors Road. Opening ceremonies for the day, and presentation of Citizen of the Year awards, take place in the park at 12:30 p.m., along with a classic car and antique tractor show.
Games for all ages continue through the afternoon, with a dunk tank and cow patty bingo at 1 p.m., followed by the Amazing Reptile Man at 2 p.m. and activities, awards and antique vehicle awards presentations at 3 p.m.
The fun continues after dinner, with live music from Two of a Kind at 7 p.m. Corky the Clown will also be on hand to whip up balloon art for the kids. Awards and announcements will take place at 8:30 p.m.
The day will wind up with a stunning fireworks display at 9:45 p.m.
