With just one week to go before the 3rd Annual Dan Gallant Memorial Car Show, the committee and its sponsors are kicking into high gear.

An exciting pre-show event takes place next Wednesday (July 9) at Boston Pizza where it is Danny G. Day! Boston Pizza will donate 10 per cent of all food sales from the day to the Dan Gallant Memorial Education Awards Fund. (Even take-out orders will boost the cause - callers need only to mention Danny G. Day.) In addition, the committee will host a raffle table on site, which will offer great prizes donated by local businesses.

Daniel Gallant was born and raised in Carlisle, where he attended Balacalva Public School before moving on to Waterdown District High School. He was just 19 years old and about to enter his second year at Georgian College's Canadian Automotive Institute in a Business Management program, when his life was suddenly cut short by a cerebral brain hemorrhage.

Throughout his academic career, exhibited intelligence, friendship and amazing zest for life. His family and friends dreamed of a way to not only remember and celebrate his life but to form a legacy in his name for years to come. Thus, the Dan Gallant Memorial Car Show, which combines his love of cars, friends and community. Proceeds from this event fund four Education Awards in his memory, two for WDHS students and two for Georgian College students.

But the dream doesn't stop there. The committee has announced that it will partner with the Hamilton Community Foundation, with the aim of establishing a large enough endowment fund to support these awards in Gallant's name for years to come.

The 3rd Annual Dan Gallant Memorial Car Show takes place Sunday July 13 at Flamboro Speedway at Brock Road and the 5th Concession West. Gates open at 8 a.m. Show vehicles of all ages and types are welcome.

The fun will include a beef and pork BBQ, fresh cut French fries, hand-scooped Stoney Creek Dairy ice cream and plenty of refreshments, including a Beer Garden provided by Boston Pizza. Spectators are encouraged to join in the fun. Great food, games, a Kids' Zone, raffles and a silent auction (raffles and auction wrap up between 2-2:30 p.m.) will all be part of the fun. Local artist Cartoon Bob will also be there to create a memorable caricature of you and your family.

The show car awards presentation starts at 3 p.m., followed by the draw for the Grand Door Prize: a brand new 350 Chevy Crate Engine sponsored in part by John Holland Chevrolet Ltd. Show car owners and spectators alike can get in on this draw by making a cash contribution to our Education Fund - but participants must be present to win.

The Dan Gallant Memorial Car Show is run solely by volunteers. All money raised at the show will boost the education fund.
