Dive into summer fun at rural libraries

Fun for kids continues through July and August, with the Hamilton Public Library's "LOL" (Lots of Laughs) Summer Reading Program.

The Greensville branch is planning a special launch event at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, with entertainer Bruce Simpson. Those who attend are asked to bring along a donation for the food bank. Summer reading events at the Kirby Avenue site also include Just for Laughs Bingo on July 15, a Wii gaming session for kids ages 10 and up on July 16, Crazy Crafts on August 5, Funny Animals on August 12 and a special visit from the SPCA on August 19. Reporting hours are Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Tuesdays from 2 -4:30 p.m. (depending on staff availability), Thursdays from 3-4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 2-4:30 p.m.

The Rockton branch celebrates its official kickoff Wednesday, July 9, with a special visit from the Reptile Man at 2:30 p.m. Those who plan to attend are asked to bring along an item for the food bank. The Old Hwy. 8 location is also hosting Just for Laughs Bingo on July 24, a special visit from the SPCA on August 14 and a "Fabulously Funny Foods" day on August 21. Reporting hours are 2-4:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, 4-6 p.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Written and illustrated reports can be submitted to the circulation desk anytime during library hours.

The Lynden library kicks off LOL Thursday, July 10, with a performance by the popular children's group, Turkey Rhubarb. Kids who attend are asked to bring along an item for the food bank. Just for Laughs Bingo (July 23), Fabulously Funny Foods (July 30), Crazy Crafts (August 6), Funny Animals (August 13) and a special visit from the SPCA (August 18) round out the fun. Reporting hours are Mondays from 2-5:30 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m., Tuesdays from 6-7:30 p.m., Wednesdays from 2-4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Bruce Simpson performs at the Freelton library at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 10; those who attend are asked to bring along an item for the food bank. Fabulously Funny Foods will be held on July 31 and Friends of the Aviary will visit on August 14. Reporting hours at the Brock Road location are Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-7 p.m. and Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, from 2-4:30 p.m.

Summer reading is under way at the Millgrove branch, which is holding Just for Laughs Bingo on July 17 and Fabulously Funny Foods on August 7. Friends of the Aviary will make a special visit to the Millgrove Sideroad location on Monday, August 18. Reporting hours in Millgrove are from 2-4:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, from 4-6 p.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Saturdays.

The HPL's summer reading program wraps up at all branches on August 23.
