Go batty at Mountsberg
Arts & Entertainment
Jul 18, 2008
Not many people know that bats could save the rainforest. Or that crops such as bananas, avocados, vanilla and peaches rely on bats for pollination. Bats are beautiful - and beneficial to humans - and visitors at the Mountsberg Conservation Area have the chance to spend an evening with these fascinating creatures on Saturday August 16, from 7-9 p.m.

Guests at Bat Night can watch as bats drop from their daytime roost to begin their nightly hunt for insects, and will have the chance to get up close and personal with a live bat. The family event also includes activities such as a puppet play, storytelling, and games. Guest speaker Dara Ohrbach from the University of Western Ontario will be on hand to discuss these misunderstood mammals, and to dispel some of the myths surrounding these little creatures.

Bat Night is one of the Nature Discovery Series events offered throughout the year at Mountsberg. The cost to attend is $12 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. This is a popular programme, so those interested in participating are urged to register well in advance, by calling 905-854-2276.

Mountsberg is located on Milburough Line, just south of Hwy. 401, between Guelph Line and Hwy. 6.
