Young performers are invited to show off their talents at the Hamilton Philharmonic’s Youth Orchestra auditions next weekend. The session takes place on Saturday, September 6 from 9 a. m. to noon at Hillfield-Strathallan College, 299 Fennell Avenue West, Hamilton.
Admission to the HPYO is based on the playing ability of each candidate, who will be asked to choose and play two contrasting pieces or the first movement of a concerto. Sight reading may be requested, and candidates may play from memory, but it is not required. Successful candidates must make a one-year commitment to regular rehearsals and performances with the HPYO. Currently, seven concerts are scheduled between November 2008 and May 2009.
