Members of the Optimist Club of Carlisle are getting their ducks in a row just in time for their annual fundraiser.
Every year, Duck Dash organizers set hundreds of yellow rubber duckies free to make their way downstream. As the ducks meander along, ticketholders keep their fingers crossed, hoping their duck crosses the finish line first. And this year will be no different.
According to Optimist Club president Jeff Partridge, the 2012 instalment of the Duck Dash is set to take place on Saturday, June 16 at Carlisle Road’s Courtcliffe Park, where the ducks will be put in the water shortly before 11 a.m.
One lucky duck will take home a cash prize of $1,500 thanks to TD Financial, while other winners will receive awesome prizes, which include a $1,500 YMCA Family Pass, an Air Canada voucher, valued at $1,000, and a $200 Weeks Home Hardware gift certificate. Other activities on the day of the event include a barbecue, where kids will receive a free balloon, hot dog and pop. Wagon rides will also take place.
Tickets for the Duck Dash cost $5 each and are available starting this week at several local businesses. Residents should watch for the large duck standing at the entrance of area stores such as Fortinos, RONA and Weeks Home Hardware.
Groups such as the Boy Scouts, Waterdown Pathfinders and ABC Pre-School are also selling tickets on behalf of the Carlisle service club. For their efforts, the organizations get to keep half the proceeds of their ticket sales.
Hoping to sell 2,000 tickets, the Optimist Club of Carlisle will allocate funds raised at this year’s Duck Dash to support the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, community youth projects and Youth Unlimited for the construction of its new youth centre.
