A hearfelt donation

Flamborough Review

When Grace Bonus was an infant and toddler, she didn’t have much hair. Just a little tuft at the top of her head, her mom, Lynda, recalled. Now, the 12-year-old Millgrove girl has so much of it, she keeps giving it away – for a good cause.

For the third time in seven years, the Grade 6 St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Elementary School student donated her long, blond locks to Angel Hair for Kids, a not-for-profit organization that crafts wigs for children who have lost their hair after undergoing cancer treatments or as a result of suffering from other conditions.

At Becky Galer’s home salon in Millgrove, Grace underwent the kindest cut. Roughly 14 inches were snipped, more than the 12-inch locks she previously donated when she was five and eight years old.

Grace’s shorter ‘do was well received by her peers, who complimented the young girl on her new look. “They liked it,” she said.

AWhile it will take a few years for her hair to grow back to the required length, the Millgrove resident anticipates she’ll donate her hair again. And again. And again.
