Business as usual at Waterdown UPS store

Flamborough Review

By Catherine O’Hara, REVIEW STAFF

Following a brief interruption in service, it’s business as usual at The UPS Store Waterdown. According to The UPS Store Canada’s senior vice-president of operations, Steve Moorman, the Waterdown franchisee “elected to close the door” sometime on Friday, January 13.

“We have been in contact with the landlord. Within each lease, we have what’s called an evasion clause, which gives us the ability to go in and operate the store on an interim basis so we can take care of the customers,” explained Moorman.

On Monday, services at The UPS Store Waterdown, including mail and parcel delivery and pickup, resumed. The store, staffed by its regular employees, will maintain its hours of operation, which run from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

The UPS Store Canada is working alongside the franchisee with the aim of taking over legal title of the store and eventually finding another operator. “We want to refranchise the business,” said Moorman. The Waterdown UPS Store has been in operation in the community for more than 15 years.

“We are very much interested in talking to any qualified candidates,” said the company’s senior vice-president of operations.

Since taking over operation of the store earlier this week, The UPS Store officials have faced a few bumps in the road. “At this point we can’t yet take a debit or credit card transaction. We have to secure new equipment and accounts for that. We are in the process of getting that set up now,” said Moorman.

However, the staff and corporate officials are working to continue to meet the needs of local customers. “We are looking to make this as easy a transition as possible,” Moorman said.
