Rod & Gun: Trapshooting season off to good start

Flamborough Review

Sim Harris, Waterdown Rod & Gun Club

The Silver Horseshoe Trap League got its new season off to a good start on Sept. 16 at the Galt club. There were 117 shooters out for the first meet and a lot of good scores were registered. The top scoring club for the meet was the H.A.H.A. with 390 out of 400. Galt, last year’s winner, finished second with 366. Waterdown had 33 shooters out for the meet and a good many of them were relatively new to the sport. It will be interesting to see their progress as we proceed through the 8 meet season.

The top shooters and their scores for Waterdown were Gary Paron 48, Wills Yacobucci 47, Jerry Pietrowski 46, Ron Alton 45, Jerry Beale 45, Chris Fizere 45, Wayne Milford 45, and Roman Pietrowski 45. The next meet will be held at the Waterdown Club on Oct. 21.

The first meet of the Waterdown club’s house league took place on Sept. 23. Results of this meet are not available at this time.

Wednesday and Sunday mornings are still attracting good turnouts for trapshooting and the club continues to attract new shooters and many new members. New shooters are welcome to come out and look over the club and get into the sport if they are interested. We also have targets for archery and a good number of our members have taken up archery for target shooting and deer hunting.

Much of the conversation around the club these days is about hunting. Fishing is slipping back due to the low water levels and less interest with the weather cooling down. The local controlled deer hunt starts Nov. 5 and runs for the week. So far, I haven’t heard anyone getting a tag in the draw. This is not surprising as it is usually only a couple of weeks before the season opens when you hear if you were successful.
