Novice Sabres clean up

Flamborough Review

The Brown Financial novice AA Sabres cleaned up last weekend – on and off the ice.

The team of 7-8 year olds elected to give back to their community this season in a very hands-on way. Gathering at Memorial Park on Sunday morning (Oct. 28), the team was joined by Hamilton Councillor Judi Partridge and employees from the City of Hamilton to conduct a clean-up project at the park located in central Waterdown. Players were divided into groups, and spent the morning picking up garbage and recycling in and around the park.

The project was also going to tackle graffiti in the park, but the terrible weather hampered those efforts.

Prior to the cleanup, the players learned the significance of the park’s name (Memorial) and also the impact their efforts would have on its beautification. The team’s coaching staff, along with the parents, reinforced the message to these young players that they should give back to the community that supports them so readily as a team!

Later in the day, after warming up and drying off, the Brown Financial Novice AA Sabres continued their winning streak by beating the Ancaster Avalanche 8-1 at Morgan Firestone Arena. Undefeated in their last seven games, the team sits in first place with a record of 8-2-2.
