Hamilton stargazers host astronomer at January meeting

Flamborough Review

The Hamilton Amateur Astronomers' group is hosting its monthly meeting on Friday, Jan. 11, when McMaster University astronomer Dr. Laura Parker will make a presentation.

Parker's presentation will focus on the role of environment on galaxy evolution. The astronomer will touch on the world's current understanding of how galaxies have formed and evolved over the last 10 billion or so years.  She is also expected to discuss one of her main research interests, the role that the galaxy group or cluster environment plays on galaxy evolution.

The club's observing director John Gauvreau will also present the sky for the January at the meeting.

The Hamilton Amateur Astronomers' group meets in the Hamilton Spectator building, 44 Frid St., Hamilton, starting at 7:30 p.m. There is no cost to attend the two-hour meeting and community residents are encouraged to turn out. A freewill donation for the local food bank is appreciated.

Hamilton Amateur Astronomers is a non-profit club that promotes local astronomy and meets on the second Friday of each

month except July and August. For more information, please see the Hamilton Amateur Astronomers web site.
