The province’s new leader is coming to Flamborough.

Premier Kathleen Wynne, who is also Ontario’s Minister of Agriculture, has confirmed she will be in attendance at this year’s Outstanding Business Achievement awards gala on Saturday, March 2 at the recently renovated Flamborough Hills Golf and Country Club.

The annual event, hosted by the Flamborough Chamber of Commerce, celebrates the very best in corporate excellence and community service.

The ceremony, which kicks off with a meet and greet at 5 p.m., will feature a steak dinner, followed by an awards program. Wynne is expected to be on hand for the start of the evening and will deliver brief remarks.

“For a relatively small chamber like ours to have the premier join us is very, very significant,” said the local chamber’s executive director, Arend Kersten. “We are going to give Premier Wynne a typically warm Flamborough welcome.”

Wynne’s attendance at next month’s gala was made possible thanks to Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale MPP Ted McMeekin, who assisted the business group extend an invitation to the Premier shortly after she was elected the new leader of the Liberal Party.

“With the issues facing the agricultural community with regards to proposed changes to the slots and trots and their potential impacts on the Flamborough economy…I think her visit is particularly timely,” said Kersten.

This year, the Outstanding Business Achievement awards will recognize numerous community residents in 11 categories, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be bestowed upon four individuals. Tim Langford will be honoured, as will Jim Aitkin, and Wilf and Tom Langford, posthumously.

“This is just a joyous evening when the community comes together,” said Kersten, noting that attendance to the Outstanding Business Achievement awards gala is open to all members of the public.

Tickets to the event cost $75 per person or $600 for a table of eight. They are available on a first-come, first-serve basis by calling the Flamborough Chamber of Commerce office at 905-689-7650.
