The 2008 edition of the CIFES (aka "Toronto Farm Show") has lined up innovative systems and product lines designed to increase both recreational and producer on-farm efficiency, including a new feature, the "Big Boy Toys" display. This all-new exhibit for 2008 will showcase some of the largest and most current farm equipment available in the market today, with several new product launches scheduled for the show.
But bigger isn't always better. And there is a growing demand for more compact and smaller-scale farm equipment to service the growing number of new rural property owners in the communities and municipalities that surround the GTA. A group of independent John Deere dealerships throughout south and central Ontario have come together to support another new and innovative concept at the 2008 CIFES--"The Dream Green Farm."
This conceptual farm will be built in a dedicated exhibit area within the show facilities. The Dream Green Farm promises to be an excellent learning opportunity for new rural property owners, many of whom are "sundowner" farmers, who have questions about the type of equipment they need to properly service and maintain their country facilities.
A series of educational seminars have been scheduled, including the popular Renewable Energy Pavilion and the Agricultural Innovation Seminar stage featuring current and future programs for state-of-the-art farming communities. Sessions will run throughout the day for the duration of the show.
Youth are an important part of the agricultural industry and the show is working closely with Ontario Agri-Food Education (OAFE) on an Agricultural Career Day, targeting both urban and rural Grade 11 and 12 students within the GTA. This unique educational program, held the final day of the show, provides an opportunity for teens to speak with industry experts and attend learning seminars with specially scheduled speakers.
The constantly changing agricultural landscape, with its unique challenges and opportunities, will be addressed by the Junior Farmers' Association of Ontario. Dedicated to young farmers (18-39 years), the Ultimate Junior Farmers' Challenge will feature a daily challenge with four individual tasks involving the new dynamics of farming in the 21st century. Participants can register online at www.jfao.on.ca or www.torontofarmshow.com.
The 2008 edition of the Canadian International Farm Equipment Show runs February 5-7 at the International Centre, 6900 Airport Road in Missi-ssauga.
