The Gala has become an important part of the Pork Congress festivities. It's as much a tribute to the hard work of producers and industry stakeholders as it is a chance to relax and enjoy a sumptuous meal, fun and good friends.
"This industry has faced so many challenges in the past decade, and yet we're able to put on our best and enjoy each other's company, and that says so much about our professionalism and our character," says Deb Campbell, organizer of the Kick-Off Gala.
"It'd be so simple to just give up, and yet year after year, we're here with this...party, and well wishes, and smiling faces. It says a lot about the job we do."
The celebration begins with a reception at 6:30 p.m., with dinner to follow at 7 p.m.
Clare Schlegel with be honoured at this year's gala with the Industry Merit Award. Schlegel has served with Ontario Pork as director and chair and also as president of the Canadian Pork Council.
