"It's a bittersweet anniversary for us," said Lorie Jocius, COFS President. "The 2008 Show is quickly developing into the biggest venture we have ever undertaken - and yet we're doing it without my husband." Ginty Jocius, the Show's founder, passed away in January.
An exciting 2008 feature is the Horse Power Expo where farmers can "ride and drive" different manufacturers' tractors on a specially-designed track.
At the same location, there will be a hands-on IP Combine Cleaning Workshop providing tips and techniques for Identity Preserved cropping.
For the first time in Canada, Monsanto will showcase the latest in biotechnology improvements to corn and soybean varieties. This demonstration will provide growers an opportunity to see "research in action" and glimpse the future of cropping in North America.
"Our 2008 Show is crammed with innovations," said Jordon Underhill, General Manager of COFS. "The revolutionary Lely Voyager automatic grazing system, with its European award-winning technology, will be demonstrated at our Show - another 'first' in North America." This 'intelligent' solar robotic fencing system eliminates the manual chore of moving fence for rotational grazing.
With more farmers getting involved in on-farm construction projects, the demand for adaptable construction equipment is growing. This year, COFS will add an Ag Construction Expo where manufacturers can put their equipment "through the paces," demonstrating the on-farm use of equipment designed for the construction market.
"The Sustainable Energy Expo (S.E.E.) presented by Toyota was a great success last year," said Underhill. "To provide enough exhibit space for the big increase in the number of energy-efficient products and services available for the farm, we've moved this expo to the main entrance area at the Ducks Unlimited Wetland Pond." Toyota Canada will offer on-road opportunities to test drive its line of hybrid vehicles, in addition to the off-road test track, where attendees can put the new Tundra trucks through a grueling backwoods drive.
"We're calling September 11 Auction Thursday," added Underhill. "The 2nd annual Canada's Outdoor Ag Equipment Auction will start at 4:00 p.m. that Thursday in the same location as last year." In addition, Underhill said Auction Thursday will feature a 20-pair commercial beef cow/calf auction and a 50-head 'robot ready' dairy heifer auction earlier in the day.
"I think Canada's Outdoor Farm Show excels because of our strong commitment to agriculture," said Jocius. "We showcase the newest and most innovative technology so producers can see and touch the future of farming in operation in one place," she added. "Because of the incredible support of our exhibitors over the years, Canada's Outdoor Farm Show has become the place 'Where Farmers Meet' to carry on their business of farming."
Canada's Outdoor Farm Show - September 9-11 - takes place at Canada's Outdoor Park in Woodstock, Ontario. For information, visit www.CanadasOutdoor Park.com or call 1-800-563-5441.
