Heron Point, one of Ontario's regular top 50 rated golf courses, proved to be a great test of golf for all players. In the mid 1990s, the course hosted the Canadian Masters, one of the Canadian Professional Golf Tour's most prestigious events, which saw a young Mike Weir win in record fashion back in 1997. That win catapulted Weir to the PGA Tour and eventually a win at the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia.
Last week's GHT event ended in a three-way tie for first. Waterdown resident Jim Kenesky of Lowville Golf Club in Burlington, David Banks of Within Range, and Reggie Millage of The Clublink Academy all fired one over par rounds of 72.
Millage started his day with a triple bogey and followed with a bogey on the second, rallying to shoot 3-under in his next 16 holes.
Banks and Kenesky were a little more consistent throughout the day. Kenesky made 10 straight pars to start, threw in two bogeys on the par threes, came back with two birdies on 15 and 17 and bogied the last to finish at one over par.
The next event is scheduled for Monday, August 25 at Southbrook Golf and Country Club in Binbrook.
