The Sabres started slowly and were down 3-1 early in the first period but battled back, eventually tying the game 3-3 by the end of the second.
Play tightened up dramatically in the third as Flamborough only outshot Kingston 3-2, but scored the all-important game winner. The Sabres killed off a power play with five minutes left. Even pulling the Kingston goalie still could not beat the solid Flamborough defense and goaltending.
The Sabres went undefeated over the weekend, outscoring their opposition by 11 goals over four games while slicing through the Ontario competition to capture the trophy. Opponent goalies were peppered with rubber as the Sabres fired 94 shots while only fending off 41.
The team’s high-flying forwards are: Alex Seguin, Bobby Harrison, Braedon McCarles, Connor Snider, Jack Foster, Josh McRae, Justin Coles, Kyle Pipe and Michael DaMaia.
The strong defense consists of: Dustyn McFaul, Erik Therkildsen, Jacob Parkinson, Jacob Whaley, Kurt Krappe and Mason Drury. Great goaltending by Hayden O’Dell and Logan Zerebny combined to allow only seven goals all weekend.
After a random player draw, the Sabres team of Alex, Bobby, Kurt and Logan also combined to win the Novice 3-on-3 competition in a thrilling Sunday morning final.
Thanks go to coach Jamie Pipe, assistants Scott O’Dell and Terry Whaley, trainer Tom Harrison and manager Bruce McCarles.
