Although the Waterdown District High School senior Warriors were off to a slow start at Thursday’s football game, the boys pulled together and played as a team, defeating the Ancaster Royals 24-8.
“They (the boys) were sluggish to start...They weren’t really into it and it took a while for them to get going,” explained coach Chuck Taylor. “But once they got going, the boys really started winning the battles in the trenches,” he said, adding that the team executed some great plays on the Ancaster field.
Sporting the number 77 jersey, Warrior Rob Bramwell scored all the touchdowns during the hard-fought match. “He had a great day,” described Taylor.
The senior team moves up into the third spot in HWIAC play with three wins, one tie and one loss under its belt for a total of 7 points.
“Next we play Delta, who is just below us (in the standings). If we can win, we will guarantee ourselves a spot in the playoffs and that’s a big thing for us this year,” said Taylor.
With two games left before the semifinals, the senior team continues to work on its offensive line, adding layers and extra plays. “Unless we get some points up there, we don’t win,” explained Taylor.
The senior Warriors are slated to tackle Delta at the Mohawk Sports Complex on Thursday, October 23. Kick off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
