The Talent Show and Karaoke Final consisted of 30 acts ranging from piano and violin to dancing and vocal. Five area judges had the difficult job of ensuring that contestants went home, not only with prize money but advice and encouragement. All five were chosen because of their extensive experience in entertainment, youth activities, performing and involvement in the community.
The afternoon kicked off with the “Instrumental and Dance” categories. Nine-year-old Rachel Wieczorek secured first place with her tap dance, “Lollipop,” and even broke into song, which established a great connection with the audience.
The momentum continued as vocal contestants in three age groups sang their hearts out to their favourite country, rock, movie and show tunes.
However, it was the winner of the 7th Annual Grand Karaoke Final who took home the biggest prize of the day. Donny Gingrich chose to sing “Good Time” and he made sure that everyone enjoyed the performance. Judges’ comments included, “Quite a ham!” “Knew the song well and sold it!” “This is a good entertainer. He involved the audience!”
In reviewing the afternoon, the committee summarized, “People have always gathered together at Rockton World’s Fair to entertain and be entertained. It is a tradition that has lasted for 157 years and indeed with talent, enthusiasm, and encouragement will continue to produce the performers of the future.”
