The Waterdown District High School boys’ senior football team’s five-win streak came to an abrupt end during the HWIAC semifinal game Thursday evening, as the senior Warriors were defeated, 25-0, by a strong Sir Allan McNab team.
Starting in favour of the Waterdown team at Ivor Wynne Stadium, the game was quickly handed to McNab. “Things started well. We received the kick off and we marched on,” said coach Chuck Taylor.
However, following a no-yard penalty, the Warriors spent most of the game within Waterdown’s 40-yard line as McNab put pressure on the team’s defence.
“We got smoked,” exclaimed Taylor, noting that the local team wasn’t able to fill the gaps on the offensive and defensively, ultimately costing the Warriors the semifinal game.
“We thought we had the offence worked out, but it wasn’t to be,” said Taylor.
As McNab moves on to the league championship match against Westdale, Taylor expressed his contentment with the team’s efforts this season and was pleased to see the Warriors in third place with five wins, one tie and one loss under their belt.
“All in all, it was a really successful season,” he said. “The top four teams were very competitive.”
