Canadian Blood Services has put the call out for donors who can help replenish the national supply. Over the last two months the national blood inventory – our emergency reserve – has dropped by more than 40 per cent.
While patients’ needs for emergencies are being met, the reduced availability of blood is challenging some hospitals’ ability to serve the needs of elective or routine patients. Such a trend, if not reversed, could result in the delay of treatment or the postponement of elective surgeries.
Canadian Blood Services is calling on all eligible Canadians to make an appointment to donate blood. Locally, this can be done at CBS’s permanent clinic at 1250 Brant Street, Burlington (at North Service Road). The next mobile clinic in Waterdown is scheduled for December 19 at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish Hall on Centre Road.
Information about clinic hours can be found at www.blood.ca , or by calling 1-888-2-DONATE.
