On Saturday, the Cats travelled to Fergus to take on a disciplined Wellington team. Largely a rearguard action, the Flamborough players chased and worked to limit the damage.
With a final score of 7-0 against, the Sabres’ defence did all that they were asked and more, with goalies Billy Moore and Zach Dietz putting on an amazing show for the near sell-out crowd.
Monday night’s contest at Caledon saw the Cats return to form with a convincing 5-1 victory.
Flamborough came out of the blocks rolling and didn’t let up until the final buzzer. Flamborough’s goals were scored by Nolan Fetter, Colby Prikker and Jaden Faulkner with assists by Faulkner and Braeden Hooper.
On Tuesday, the Sabres faced the Burlington Eagles in Carlisle. Burlington jumped out to an early 2-0 lead until Faulkner pulled one back with a great piece of individual play.
The teams battled back and forth until Burlington pulled away with two late goals to end the game 4-1.
Sunday saw the Sabres travelling to Hespeler for another crack at the archrival Shamrocks. This time, the result was even better for the Sabres as they battled hard to a 2-2 draw. Sabres’ goals were scored by Keven Brennan assisted by Liam Passmore with Tyler Schaap then feeding Jacob Dietz who stormed the length of the ice to slot home.
SabreStars of the week were Faulkner, Charlie Smith and goalie Dietz.
In partnership with the Flamborough minor Peewee AA team, the Sabres will be holding a fundraising dance on Saturday, November 22. The event will run from 7:30 p. m. to 1 a. m. at the Millgrove Community Centre and will feature a silent auction, cash bar and late night buffet.
Tykes’ coach, Glen Smith, will also present his new breakdance routine, accompanied by coach Colin Hooper on bongos.
