When it comes to operating and maintaining a computer, the more resources available the better. And next weekend, local residents and business owners will have a spectrum of services and products at their fingertips, at the first-ever Spring Technology and Computer Show at Memorial Hall in Waterdown.

The event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, will feature displays and presentations by CIA Computing, SCS Training Centre, Hero Technical Solutions, DBT Computers, Liquidesign and Intec Cellular.

"In the computer industry, it's much better to be face to face with the people who work on your computer. That way we can show what we do," said event organizer Karla Robson of CIA Computing.

Robson is excited about bringing several companies under one roof for the show.

"We complement each other's services," she explained, noting that while CIA specializes in security, experts on software training, web design and off-lease computers will also be on site to answer any questions. Throughout the day, each participant is also slated to make a 20-minute presentation.

Considering the Waterdown area's challenge with Internet coverage, Robson is especially excited about the Intec Cellular (Rogers Wireless) technology that will be featured at the show.

"The biggest problem for people in Waterdown is Internet accessibility," she said. "People in this area need to know there are solutions."

Robson said she is pleased with the response from local companies to the planned show, but noted that there is still room for additional booths or presenters.

In business in Waterdown since 2005 with her partner, Andy David, Robson targeted Memorial Hall on Dundas Street East as the venue for CIA's first show - they plan to stage similar events in the future in Burlington and Ancaster - because of its high visibility and convenient parking.

"Also, its size gives us lots of room," she said of the hall's recently upgraded interior. "And we really want to do these activities, and involve businesses downtown."

In addition to presentations, the Spring Technology and Computer Show will feature door prizes and reduced rates for off-lease computers. Light refreshments will be served and entertainment for children will be available. Admission is free.

Information about the Spring Technology and Computer Show, or about booking space at the April 5 event, is available by calling Robson at 905-690-3289.
