Former Westover residents John and Edna Yovanov have organized a night of music, food and prizes to provide a better future for children in developing countries through sustainable-based projects.
"We have put on the program for over 13 years," noted Mr. Yovanov. "We have helped give 40 children scholarships in Belize."
The SHARE banquet usually draws about 200 guests and raises $7,000 with 90 per cent going directly towards SHARE Agricultural Foundation. According to the SHARE Agricultural Foundation website, the money raised last year was able to help the developing countries of Brazil, Belize, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.
"There are 6,000 hours of volunteer work at SHARE," said Mr. Yovanov, noting that no money goes towards administration costs.
The sole mission of SHARE is to provide agriculturally based communities with a chance to enhance their quality of life by assisting them in economic, environmental and social development. This year's banquet takes place on May 8, starting at 6:45 p.m. at Copetown Lions Community Centre.
Festivities include a live performance by the Mountsberg Choir with a theme of "Thanx for Memories," a presentation about the group's work in Belize, dinner and door prizes. The Copetown Lions provide the hall and cook the dinner.
Tickets are available for $25 by calling John Yovanov at 905-529-1971.
