MATCHMAKER: Brooklynn Winch is ready to register stu...
YES is primarily funded through Service Canada, along with donations from the Waterdown Rotary Club. The program offers summer employment opportunities for youth and helps them find the right job.
“It’s a matching process,” Winch said of the program. Students can fill out an application form and Winch will contact prospective employers. She matches students to employers based on the student’s interest and employer’s needs.
Winch recently completed her first year at the University of Dalhousie in Nova Scotia, where she is working towards her Bachelor of Science in the Health Promotion program. While in high school, she found summer employment opportunities through YES two years in a row. This is her first year working for YES and she is looking forward to the experience. She mentioned that it will be interesting to see which students and employers will be matched together and how the economy will affect YES.
Application forms are available at the Flamborough Municipal Building (old Town Hall). YES is open between 10 a. m. and 4 p. m. It also offers resume writing and interviewing skills tips for students looking for employment. Businesses can also register with YES if they are interested in hiring students.
