BIG WINNER: Jitterbug Café owner Shelley Campbell receives ...
The Waterdown businesswoman won a $5,000 prize for participating in the Scotiabank’s online tips contest. Each participant has their name entered in a random
Canada-wide draw as soon as they submit a tip aimed at helping others in the business world.
Campbell found out she was a winner about three weeks ago, when she was contacted and asked to answer a skill-testing question. Her win was a big surprise but will come in handy, particularly with the Christmas season coming on, she said. She plans to use the money to pay some business expenses.
Bryan Butcher, manager of Scotiabank’s Waterdown branch, explained that the draw will continue through January 2010 and can be accessed by visiting www.getgrowingforbusiness.com.
Thousands of small business owners have already registered for the monthly draw offering the cash prize.
All entrants will receive the Get Growing newsletter featuring articles about practical aspects of growing a successful business, including tips for managing finances to building effective sales and marketing.
Campbell, a Scotiabank client, said she couldn’t remember what business tip she offered but said it had something to do with encouraging employee productivity.
Being a Scotiabank customer isn’t a requirement for those wanting to enter the contest, Butcher noted. The purpose of collecting the tips is to provide helpful advice to owners who want to grow their businesses.
