MARCHING IN PROTEST: Teachers from the Hamilton-Wentworth Local of the ETFO recently staged a one-day strike, with about 100 of them protesting at MPP Ted McMeekin’s office in December. They are set to host another protest on Friday, Jan. 11 but the Ontario Labour Relations Board deemed the action an "unlawful strike."

Hamilton elementary schools open today

Hamilton public elementary schools are open today, according to an “urgent” message posted on the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board web site.

The Education Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) emerged from an all-night hearing with the Ontario Labour Relations Board and notified its members to report to work after the chair deemed a planned walkout an “unlawful strike.”

As a result, the board has decided to open its elementary facilities today (Jan. 11). School buses, according to the board, will also be running.
