Dear Editor:
We lost a bit of Flamborough on January 19 with the passing of Melvin Pegg. Mel and his brother Lloyd have farmed on Safari Road all their lives. Beef, hogs, chickens and, in the last years, cash crops.
Even if you never had the pleasure of meeting the Pegg boys, odds are you have heard of them.
Chocolate cake, chocolate chip cookies and pie were always great drawing cards at our house.
If you wanted to know when the community breakfasts, lunches or suppers were happening, you just had to ask the boys as they had it all down to a science.
The number of people attending the visitation and funeral at Kitching, Steepe & Ludwig was a testament to how well they were thought of in the community. They were always there to lend a helping hand. Mel will be sadly missed by many.
I was also impressed with the long funeral possession as we travelled to the gravesite.
Traffic in all directions came to a standstill, allowing us to pass through. Travelling north on Centre Road, the southbound traffic pulled over to the side and waited for us to pass uninterupted.
In today’s hurried world, acts of this kind help to restore my faith in mankind.
To Lloyd, there is a fresh batch of cookies on the counter and the coffee pot is always on for you.
