Witness alerts police to location of impaired driver

This column will alert the public to crime in their community. Information is compiled and submitted by Cst. Ian McKellar, Hamilton Police Service.

Home and Business Entries

  • A Hwy. 6 home was entered during the daylight hours of July 8. Suspects gained access to the residence by kicking open the front door of the house. Once inside, they helped themselves to several cartons of cigarettes.

  • Suspects rode an ATV-type vehicle into the locked compound of a rural business on July 9 and stole copper wire.

  • Thieves entered the garage of a Chudleigh Street home on July 10. They stole a Gary Fisher mountain bike, and left behind a black BMX bike.

    Other Incidents

  • Suspects stole a 2007 Hummer from a Flamborough venue on July 5. Investigation revealed that the culprits went on to use a credit card left in the vehicle to buy fuel at a Brantford area gas bar. Six Nations Police later informed Hamilton officers that the vehicle had been stripped and recovered in their jurisdiction.

  • Thieves stole several items from a vehicle belonging to a Thornlodge Drive resident overnight on July 5.

  • Police were called to assist with a conflict between residents at a Flamborough nursing home on July 5.

  • A patron at a Hwy. 6 gas bar drove off without paying for approximately $55 worth of fuel.

  • Two young children were found to be responsible for damage to a vehicle, a fence and an outbuilding at a Kyle Court home on July 6. The culprits were dealt with, with the aid of their parents.

  • A Centre Road business was covered in graffiti overnight on July 7.

  • Police investigated threatening text messages received by a Hwy. 6 resident on July 7.

  • Police responded to a Flamborough group home after staff had a conflict with a father of one of the residents on July 7.

  • A Centre Road resident found a bicycle while out for a walk on July 7.

  • Suspects damaged a vehicle at a Waterdown complex overnight on July 7.

  • Two vehicles parked at the RBG area on Rock Chapel Road during the late afternoon of July 8 were entered.

  • A Flamborough resident reported harassing phone calls in relation to a business venture and a customer on July 8.

  • Vandalism continued at a 6th Concession home on July 8, when a homeowner who has been victimized before reported that someone smashed the front window of the home just after midnight.

  • A man was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment on July 8, after suffering drug-induced psychosis that frightened his family.

  • Police responded to Hamilton Street North and Rockhaven Lane on July 8 for a collision involving injury.

  • Several residents at a Flamborough group home became involved in a conflict on July 8.

  • A 51-year-old male was charged with assault, impaired driving and uttering death threats in connection with a domestic situation at a Flamborough campground on July 8.

  • A suspect pumped $20 worth of gas at a Hwy. 6 gas bar and fled without paying on July 8.

  • A vehicle parked on Kildonan Cr. was entered and ransacked on July 9. A GPS system and cellphone battery were stolen.

  • Police responded to a Flamborough park July 9 to assist with property removal after a residence was sold.

  • A GPS unit was found on 2nd Concession West on July 9.

  • A Carlisle area homeowner turned over an old wallet and ID that was found on their property on July 9.

  • A 47-year-old Hamilton man was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle (over 80mg) and failure to remain at the scene of an accident on July 9. A driver observed the collision, which took place in the area of Brock Road and Kirby Avenue in Greensville. The witness then followed the suspect's vehicle and alerted the police to its location. Officers finally stopped the suspect in Westdale, where they made the arrest.

  • A female suspect pumped $32 worth of gas at a Hwy. 6 gas bar on July 9, then left without paying. Police used the facility's surveillance video to obtain a license plate number and description of the suspect. She was contacted and returned the next day to pay the money owing.

  • A Waterdown resident locked their bike at a Dundas Street business on July 10, only to return and find the bike had been stolen. The thieves left behind a pair of bolt cutters.

  • The K-9 unit was called in on July 10, after an SUV was found in the ditch on 2nd Concession West. The vehicle had just been stolen from Flamboro Slots and then rolled.

  • Police responded to a collision at 8th Concession West and Glenariff Drive on July 10. No injuries were reported.
