Dear Editor,
Yesterday morning, (Thursday, September 11), my husband, myself and at least two dozen people on Hwy. 97 got a very scary reminder of the dangers of impaired driving.
On our way to work, we ended up behind a car that, over a distance of five miles, almost had three head-on collisions, weaving constantly. The last close call was averted only because the oncoming vehicle jerked his truck out of the way at the last second.
We called 911 and followed the car until it pulled over. We pulled over with it. My husband confronted the young man and told him to stay until the police arrived.
The driver said this had happened before and it was because he was tired, just getting off work, trying to get home to Waterdown. The last time, the police just told him to be careful. He obviously didn’t understand what he was told. His tiredness almost cost several people their lives. He may not have been impaired by alcohol but his driving was worse than any drunk driver I have seen.
We gave our statements and went on our way, not knowing the outcome of the incident. The police said they didn’t believe he was drunk but that he was “impaired.”
Everyone at one time or another has driven while they were tired, but I ask all of you reading this to really think twice before you drive “impaired”.
Watching this driver was one of the scariest things I have ever witnessed.
