This past Sunday, Waterdown Rod & Gun hosted the Murray Willis Memorial Shoot. We had a good turnout and the weather was great.

Following is a recap of the class winners:

Class A: 47/50 -Jim Sales.

Class B: 46/50 -Richard Ray.

Class C: 40/50 - Paul Samenek, Jerry Pietrowski.

Class D: 33/50-Bob Platford.

Murray Willis was a founding member of the Waterdown Rod & Gun Club and the shooting event was held in his memory. Murray moved a few years back to Tweed, Ontario, where he spent his last years.

In other club news, the Silver Horseshoe trap meet was held at the Galt Sportsman Club on January 6. Waterdown shooters had some very good scores but did not win the shoot. Waterford Rod & Gun Club won, with a total score of 385/400. Waterdown had 378/400. The top scores for Waterdown were: A. Ficzere - 49/50; R. Treanor - 49/50 and B. Zazinski - 49/50.

There seems to be a lot of interest in ice fishing at the club, but members and enthusiasts are warned about poor ice conditions. Lake Simcoe and surrounding lakes are unsafe and it would be wise to stay away until more stable ice forms.

Already, there have been some tragedies that possibly could have been avoided.

Next week, the Waterdown Rod & Gun Club is hosting the Silver Horseshoe trap meet (Jan. 20). All Waterdown shooters are urged to attend and help boost the club's standing.
