GAME ON: The Burlington Tyke Select Chiefs competed against skilled rep players at the recent Six Nations Confederacy Lacrosse Tournament. Several Flamborough boys play on the squad, which earned the Gold Finalists medal at the event.

Several Flamborough athletes contributed to the Burlington Chiefs' success at last weekend's (July 18-20) Six Nations Confederacy Lacrosse Tournament.

After a spring schedule of house league play, the Burlington Chiefs Minor Lacrosse Association decided to put together a Tyke Select Team.

With just six practices under their belt, they knew that they would be up against rep teams who had been practicing and playing four or five times a week for the past four months.

But the boys pulled off the unexpected, and went undefeated through the round-robin portion of the Six Nations tournament. In the semifinals, they faced a very impressive rep team from Oakville, which they defeated 7-2 to earn a berth in the final.

Up against their toughest opponents of the weekend, the Chiefs vied for gold against the Whitby Warriors, who were also undefeated in tournament play.

While the Chiefs gave their best and were leading 3-2 going into the third period, they just couldn't hang on. Whitby scored with less than five minutes left to tie it up and then, with one minute on the clock, took the go-ahead goal.

Despite pulling their goalie and going with six attackers, the Chiefs were just not able to find the back of the net before time ran out.

The boys held their heads high while receiving their "Gold Finalists" medal and are looking forward to next year's season.

The Flamborough boys on the select roster included Michael Damaia, Connor Ogg, Hudson Oliver, Jacob Parkinson, George Pitt, Norm Pitt, and Lucas Thompson, as well as coaches, George Pitt and Glenn Thompson and Trainer, Chris Ogg.
