“Listen To The Whispers,” a video and discussion on ovarian cancer, was the theme of the R.O.S.E. (Rural Ontario Sharing Education) session hosted by Clyde Scott’s Women’s Institute at its October 28 meeting at the W.I. Hall.

Barb Vervaeke of Brantford, a representative from the National Ovarian Cancer Association who is an ovarian cancer survivor, related her experiences, and talked about warning signs.

Ovarian cancer most often attacks older women and is difficult to diagnose. Vervaeke’s advice is to be aware of changes in your body and seek medical advice early.

Thirty members, friends and guests from Branchton W.I. attended. It was announced that Ruth McPhail, President of Clyde & Scott’s W.I., has received the Wentworth District Women’s Institutes’ “Woman of Excellence Fair Award” for 2009.

This award is to recognize the significant contributions made by women at local fairs.

The results of the Clyde & Scott’s W.I. display at the Rockton Fair were announced. Jean Rappolt won a first and the special prize for her entry of a crocheted tea cozy.

McPhail reported on attending the 83rd Hamilton Area W.I. Convention in St. Catharines on October 28. The theme was “Are You Involved?” Kim Sauder, the Area Voting Delegate said, “It is our duty to ensure that the following generation benefits from our involvement.”

It was announced that a good supply of items for the Canada Comforts project are being collected for Third World countries.

A social time followed the meeting, with refreshments in charge of Cathy O’Krafka and Rose Hancocks.
