55+ Bowlers strike success at Lanes

The balls were rolling, the pins were flying, the bowlers were having a really good time at Waterdown Lanes earlier this month.

Carol Bleses showed members of the 55+ bowling league how it’s done by scoring 246 and 239. We’re not sure what happened to her third game. Joan Prest was right in there with 216, while high-stepping Avis Vale came up with a 214.

Not to be outdone by the younger women, Lillian Williams bowled a 208, while Lois Johnson hit 203.
Bob Bragdon did very well in all three games, scoring 219, 228 and 209. Art Hutchinson, who won pizza for nabbing five consecutive strikes recently, kept up his skill with 244.  Earl Dickie was happy with his 212, but Tony Vanzantvoort complained because he only got a 206. John Daye grinned broadly with his 203.

The following week saw the return of Ruth and Tom Johnson, who were vacationing until just recently.

Tom showed he can still bowl well with scores of 211, 237 and 197. Bob Bragdon showed Tom he’s not the only one who can bowl well by scoring 234.

Carol Bleses was the top lady on Dec. 10 with her score of 219, while the over-80 group took a break from high scores last week.

The Dec. 10 50/50 draw prize, which included a poinsettia plant supplied by Waterdown Lanes owners Don and Marlene Hyatt, was won by Mary McKaig.

On Dec. 17, the bowlers were set to celebrate the holidays at their annual Christmas party.

There is still room for more bowlers. Whether residents have bowled before or not, they are welcome to join the 55+ league to learn a new skill or polish up an old ability.  The 55+ bowlers gather at 12:30 p.m. on Monday at Waterdown Lanes. Leagues are also available for other age groups.

For more information, call the Waterdown Lanes at 905-689-4782.
