
The Galt club, which hosted the event, won the meet with a score of 386. Waterdown was the runner-up, with a score of 380. HAHA Club of Ancaster finished third, with 379 and Waterford was last with 373.
Waterdown’s roster of shooters included Al Ficzere and Gary Paron, who each finished with a score of 49, Wayne Milford and Willis Yacobucci, who each shot a 48, Vic Tomlinson and Reg Treanor, who both shot 47 and Dave Atckinson and John Lipa, who totaled 46 points apiece. Gerry Peitrowski got lucky and won the half-and-half draw.
The Silver Horseshoe League’s next meet is at the Waterdown Club on October 19.
The Waterdown club’s house league started their season with its first meet on September 28. Top scores in the A Class went to Treanor, who shot a 50 and Milford, who was a close second with 49. Kevin Debruyn shot a 49 to win B Class and P i e t ro w s k i won C Class with a score of 44.
The bow hunting season for deer in Ontario got under way on October 1 and runs until December 31 in local Wildlife Management Units (WMUs). In units with a controlled deer hunt with firearms, the bow hunters must take a break. As of last Sunday, a number of local bow hunters hadn’t had any luck.
The trees still have a heavy leaf cover, which makes it difficult to see. The local controlled deer hunt runs from November 3 to November 9.
Most of the leaves should be on the ground by then, so the hunters should have a better chance.
Any hunters anticipating hunting any kind of wildlife should carefully check the regulations to be sure they are on the right side of the law. T h e

A Firearms Acquisition and Possession course will be starting at the Waterdown Club on October 22 at 6 p. m. and will run for four nights (including the exam on the last night).

The fishing season is just about over for ternderfoots like myself. However, the hardy type of fishermen that can stand the cold will no doubt disagree, and maybe we’ll hear about some great catches in the coming months.
Recent reports from Georgian Bay have not been good, but maybe we are travelling too far from home as Lake Ontario has been productive for both salmon and rainbow trout.
The fall is also a good time for big brown trout close to shore in Lake Ontario.
