Wednesday's mudbath against Sir Allan A. MacNab led to four...
The Warriors were down 7-0 at the end of the first half. Scott Smith scored a touchdown in the third quarter to tie the game.
“And that’s the way it stayed,” said WDHS teacher Chuck Taylor, who is on the Warriors’ coaching staff.
The weather was a factor in the game, which was played under the lights at the Parkside Drive school, lasted 40 minutes longer than the usual two hours allotted for regulation play. Heavy rains during the afternoon eased up before the 7 p.m. kickoff, but left behind a muddy field. A fine mist continued throughout the evening.
“The defence played really well in this game, “ stressed Taylor. “There were just two plays where they beat us.
“Sure, our offence is going to keep working on the ground game, but in that mud bath, they just couldn’t move the ball.”
Wednesday’s game will show as a tie on the Warriors’ record, which is now 2-1-1 for a total of five points. The team travels to Ancaster next week (Thursday, October 6).
“If we beat Ancaster, we’re still in the hunt,” Taylor said of Waterdown’s playoff chances.
