BEST EFFORT: The Flamborough Fire bantam basketball squad finished third at the recent KW Lightning tournament.

Bantams red hot on court

It was an exciting weekend of basketball action for the Flamborough Fire bantam girls’ basketball team as they competed in the annual KW Lightning tournament.

The Fire opened up the tournament by defeating the home team 37-34 and continued through round robin play to qualify for the playoff rounds on Sunday.

Their semifinal match had the girls playing tough against a highly ranked London Ramblers team, falling short at the final buzzer 31-40.

The loss did not dampen the Fire’s spirits as they headed into the bronze medal game.
Despite being down to North Toronto by 11 points at half, the Flamborough Fire rallied to steal the bronze away from the Huskies, winning 38-33.

Next, the Fire will host its annual tournament at Waterdown District High School, January 27-29.

The Flamborough girls play at 6 p.m. on Friday and at 1 and 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The bantam Fire roster includes Sydney Graper, Quinlan Grimbleby, Olivia Baker, Victoria Mauricio, Beth Howlett, Elise Euale, coach Jobina D’Aloisio, Emily Moffat, Stefanie Lewitzky, Bianca Coleman, Jillian Castellan, Lindsay Bosveld, Kathleen Howcroft and coach Paul Robertson.
