Bowling resumes at Waterdown Lanes

Bowling began a little late this year due to an unexpected visit from the local sewage disposal.

Entering the Waterdown Lanes, we found new carpet with bright cheery colours, new tiles, new wood on the lanes. And there were Don and Marlene Hyatt, owners of the facility, grinning at us from behind the counter, welcoming each as they arrived. Karen Cooper was there, too, taking care of the delicious coffee.

Soon the bowlers came in, laughter filled the room and calls of “Hi, how are you? How was your summer?” It was good to see those friendly faces again.

President Tony Vanzantvoort welcomed everyone and social secretary Lillian Williams wished each one a belated birthday.  General secretary Leona Geddes requested that the forms on the desk be completed and returned to her so that an up-to-date membership list could be compiled.

We were all happy to see we could still get a few strikes and spares. Scores for the first week will be kept to determine the averages for the year. For now, we stay with the teams we were on last year, though a few people were moved around to bring more balance to each team.

A few people were missing, some on vacation, some ill, some had stated last spring that they would not be able to return.

There will be a few vacancies to be filled by new bowlers. If you would like to join the 55+ league, call 905-689-4782 to inquire or visit www.waterdownlanes.com.

The Lanes are located in the Village Plaza on Hamilton Street North. The league meets at 12:30 p.m. each Monday.  New members always welcome.
