Lady Warriors compete at OFSAA

By Dianne Cornish, REVIEW STAFF

The Waterdown District High School (WDHS) senior girls’ volleyball team was in Kitchener-Waterloo this week (March 6 and 7), vying for a medal in the AAA division at the OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations) finals.

The team won a berth in the provincial competitions after defeating Grimsby Secondary (25-9, 25-4, 25-8) and A.N. Myer (25-7, 25-17, 25-13) during SOSSA (Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association) action at Governor Simcoe Secondary School in St. Catharines Feb. 23.

Coached by WDHS principal Michelle Visca and outside coaches, Frank Lilliman, Justin Kitney and Rebekah Hansen, the squad includes Roberta Dunlap, Randi Carey, Kelly Schurer, Sydney Krizmanich, Lindsay Vanderweide, Jackie Kelly, Kaitlyn Seguin, Lauren Butters and Lexi Karry.

“The team will focus on its quick attack and will capitalize on each girl’s unique strength,” Visca said last week of the strategy for the OFSAA tournament. “It will truly be a team effort.”
OFSAA 2011

Last year, the Lady Warriors advanced to the OFSAA finals in Newmarket, but suffered a heartbreaking loss after dropping the consolation finals in two straight games.

The girls are determined to better last year’s showing and return home with some hardware.
