The Flamborough Fire major bantam girls’ basketball team welcomed seven squads from across the province to their home tournament, Nov. 30-Dec. 2 at Waterdown District High School.
On Friday evening, after a weather delay, Flamborough downed the Blessed Sacrament 2 team, 40-29.
Saturday had the Fire facing challenging games against Niagara Falls and Oakville Venom. The Flamborough team ended up splitting these games with a 32-30 loss and a 36-31 win, respectively.
The Fire ended their round robin play with two wins and one loss, placing the Flamborough girls first in their bracket, which left them to face the Barrie Royals, a AAA team, on Sunday morning.
Despite an excellent effort, the Fire lost the game 40-28, which lined them up for another chance at Niagara Falls in the bronze medal game.
The Fire played with heart, avenging their loss earlier in the tournament, defeating Niagara 36-31 to win the bronze medal.
Congratulations to the team, including players Sydney Graper, Lindsay Bosveld, Courtney Cole, Jillian Castellan, Emily Moffat, Kathleen Howcroft, Elise Euale, Quinlan Grimbleby, Olivia Baker, Victoria Mauricio, Beth Howlett, and coaches, including Jobina D’Aloisio and Paul Robertson, for a great tournament.
