The Mountain Volleyball Club (MVC) 17U team earned a bronze medal for its efforts at the OVA 17U Provincial Cup in Burlington recently.
MVC 17U girls won 2-0 over the host Burlington Blaze Red and lost 2-0 to the Niagara Rapids, finishing second in their pool.
In the quarter-final match against the Oakville Thunder White 16U team, MVC 17U moved ahead, winning 2-0 games and then lost 2-0 games to the host Burlington Blaze Black in the semifinals.
MVC 17U finished the tournament defeating the Northern Chill 2-0 games to win a bronze medal.
The girls’ team then moved on to play at another Provincial Cup tourney, this time in a higher age division.
At the OVA 18U girls’ event in Welland, the MVC squad was golden.
MVC 17U team placed second after pool play, splitting with London VC 19-25, 25-21,15-12 and losing to the Etobicoke Titans 14-25, 25-23,14-16.
In the pre-quarters, MVC 17U soundly defeated the Waterloo Tigers 17U Black 25-8, 25-22 and the Chatham Ballhawks 25-16, 25-17 in the quarter-finals.
The MVC 17U continued to roll in the semifinals, defeating the Niagara Rapids 25-14, 25-10 and moved on to win over the Stratford Stingers 25-20, 26-24 to take home the gold medal.
The team includes Waterdown resident Caileigh Sangster as well as players from Burlington, Hamilton, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls.
