Visentin OHL player of the week, CHL goalie of the week

Fourth-year Niagara IceDogs player, Mark Visentin of Waterdown, has become the first goaltender in the OHL to claim the Player of the Week title this season. The 19-year-old Phoenix Coyotes prospect won the honour for the week ending January 29 after posting two shutout victories and a goals-against-average of 0.00. His perfect performance also earned him the Canadian Hockey League’s (CHL) goalie of the week honours.

Since returning from the world junior hockey championships with a bronze medal, Visentin has helped lead the IceDogs to seven victories, including the last three by shutout. He currently stands third among league goaltenders carrying an 18-7-0-2 record with a 2.29 goals-against-average and .914 save percentage overall this season. The 6-foot-2 , 201-pounder has recorded an OHL high of seven shutouts this season.

The IceDogs regained the Central Division lead with their 3-0 victory over the Brampton Battalion last Sunday. Last Thursday, the team shutout the Belleville Bulls, 6-0. On Sunday, Jan. 22, the IceDogs blanked the Peterborough Petes, 9-0.
