Waterdown league loses long-time bowler

Bob Warner was a bowler with the 55+ League for several years.  I don’t remember him not being at the Waterdown Lanes unless he was on vacation or ill. Always with a smile and eager to sit and chat, his quiet ways were much welcome.

Bob was almost 89 years old when he passed away Dec. 23, 2012. Some of us wondered where he was this year. For some reason, we couldn’t get in touch with him.

Bob’s bowling was outstanding. He would deliver the ball and it would seem to be heading straight for the gutter, then it would curve and he would score well. He had a wicked curve ball, scary for those not familiar with it, amazing to the rest of us.

While he leaves behind a family that I’m sure loved him dearly, his other family at Waterdown Lanes will also miss him. Next summer when we hear thunder, we’ll know he scored well for his team. He joins other good bowlers there, like Linc Johnson, who I’m sure will welcome some competition.

Some of us will gather at Kitching, Steepe and Ludwig on Saturday, Jan. 12 to join with his family in a celebration of his life. We’re going to miss Bob at bowling. He was one of the good guys.
