Three Flamborough teams captured titles at the first-ever Flamborough Girls’ Hockey Association Winter Chill Tournament Feb. 1-3.
Numerous teams from across southern Ontario, including some from as far away as Windsor and Whitby, attended the inaugural tourney.
Matches were played at Flamborough’s three arenas, North-Wentworth Twin Pad, Carlisle and Beverly arenas, and four Flamborough teams made it to the finals in their respective age division.
In house-league play, the Flamborough novice 2 squad shut out Woodstock, 2-0, for the Winter Chill title. The Flamborough atom 1 secured a 2-1 lead for the win against Flamborough’s atom 2 squad, while the Flamborough midget 2 girls were victorious in their age division, shutting out Guelph, 3-0.
Other house league teams to bring home the tournament title were the St. Catharines peewee and Grimsby bantam squads, which defeated the Grimsby peewees and Dunnville bantams, respectively.
In rep action, Flamborough’s atom BB team came close to capturing a win, but in the end, the Stoney Creek squad took home the title with a final score of 1-0.
For the peewee B teams, Kent-County defeated Burlington, 4-2, while the Stoney Creek bantam B squad shut out Ancaster, 1-0, for the win.
