A bloomin’ good read

Blooms for Africa is hosting a page-turner of an event.

The group of grandmothers, focused on raising funds for the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign, invites local bookworms to trade six of their best-read books for seven new ones at its annual Blooms for Africa Book Exchange and Afternoon Tea event on Saturday, Feb. 9.

The book exchange, held at the First Unitarian Church (170 Dundurn St. South) in Hamilton, will also serve up coffee, tea and homemade sweets to guests in attendance.

Admission to the event is a suggested $20 donation to the group’s ongoing efforts to help African grandmothers, left to care for their grandchildren orphaned by AIDS, pay for their loved ones’ education and medical supplies.

Through the Stephen Lewis Foundation, the African grandmothers also receive funds for grassroots projects, which enable them to care for their families.
