Get into spirit of the holidays at Westfield Heritage Village

For those looking to get into the spirit of the holidays, Westfield Heritage Village is the place to be this Saturday (Dec. 8) evening.

Lit by lanterns and candlelight, the village is a magical place for families and children of all ages as Westfield encourages guests to discover the history of Christmas traditions, from the Georgian, Victorian, and modern eras.

This Saturday’s program will be a very special evening for music lovers. The Rosewood Consort, directed by Bob Rivers, is an elite group who perform a repertoire of early and baroque music on a full range of recorders, from Sopranino through Contra Bass and Viola da Gamba.

From 7 until 8 p.m., they will present A Rosewood Christmas at Westfield, a rich program of seasonal music developed specifically for this event.

Visitors to the Gillen Home will enjoy the lovely sounds of the Gallery String Quartet as they play in the Edwardian parlour.

Upstairs at the Bamberger Home, Nancy Jones and Viola Duff, a violin and cello duo, will treat visitors to period Christmas music, while visitors to the D’Aubigny Inn can sit by the fire and enjoy the lively fiddle music of Emelene Rosen.

Visitors to the village can explore the more than 35 historical buildings decorated in their holiday best, meet costumed interpreters, listen to live music and meet jolly Father Christmas.

Young guests can enjoy a holiday craft in the one room log schoolhouse and a visit with furry and feathered friends in the barn.

The evening will wrap up with a magnificent fireworks display, which will light up the skies.

In the spirit of the season, Westfield will be accepting donations of non-perishable food items for distribution to local food banks.

Westfield’s ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas runs Saturdays, Dec. 8 and Dec. 15 from 5 until 9 p.m.  Christmas in the Country will take place on Sunday, Dec. 16 from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is $11 for adults, $10 for seniors and persons with disabilities, and $6.50 for children ages six to 12. Children five and under are admitted free.

Westfield is located at 1049 Kirkwall Rd. in Rockton.
