Slapshot program focuses on youth skills

Local Rotary clubs are offering Flamborough teenagers an opportunity to attend a leadership training weekend, all expenses paid.

The course is called Slapshot and runs in Ancaster from 6 p.m. on Friday, April 27 to noon on Sunday, April 29.

The Slapshot program focuses on promotion of leadership, self-esteem and teamwork. Six meals and two overnight stays in cabin settings provide the backdrop for training in listening and interpersonal skills, assertiveness and problem-solving, team building and presentation skills.

Applicants must live in Flamborough and be aged 15-18.

The deadline for applications is Friday, February 17 at 3 p.m. and candidates will be interviewed in the evening of Tuesday, February 21.

Completed applications can be left at the Student Services Department at WDHS, Guidance Department at St. Mary’s, Tony’s Shoes on Main Street in Waterdown, or the Waterdown branch of the RBC, attn: Sean Sabourin.

The Rotary Club of Flamborough AM and the Rotary Club of Waterdown have reserved four places for local teenagers and are excited about this opportunity.
