'Would not be possible': 2020 Flamborough Santa Claus Parade cancelled

News Sep 10, 2020 by Mac Christie Flamborough Review

There will be no lawn chairs lining the streets of the Waterdown core this November — the 2020 Flamborough Santa Claus Parade has been cancelled due to concerns related to COVID-19.

In a release Sept. 9, the Flamborough Santa Claus Parade Committee announced that, in conjunction with Ward 15 Coun. Judi Partridge, they had made “the difficult decision to not put anyone in our community and beyond in harm’s way by hosting a large gathering.”

The parade, which is held annually at the end of November, sees the community line the parade route with chairs days in advance of the event to stake their claim to the best viewing real estate.

“The committee worked very hard on determining the feasibility of operating a safe parade in November 2020, which was sadly decided that it would not be possible,” the statement said.

However, the committee said plans are currently underway to work with the City of Hamilton and Waterdown BIA to assist in decorating Waterdown for the 2020 holidays, as well as encouraging the community.
