Minor Bantam AAs win season opener

The Minor Bantam AA Sabres opened their hockey season with a 4-2 victory over the Ancaster Avalanche.

The Sabres were down two goals in the first period until Alex Standen found an open corner from Dylan Leahy and Brett Noiles. Sabres 2-1.

With some hard work in front of the Ancaster net, Eric Brandt (assisted by Sean Irving and Pat Brennan) scored the second Sabres goal to tie the game at 2.

Thanks to some strong fore-checking and defensive play by Mitchell Weyrauch and Kyle Mundell, the Sabres' Chris Ferguson notched another goal (assisted by Jacob Hubbs and Justin Holmes). Flamborough was up 3-2.

Goaltender Joel Thomson made some clutch saves when Zack Everett (assisted by Brayden McLean and Roy La Chappelle) scored the clinching goal.

In preseason action, the Aker Kvaemer Songer, Brandt Real Estate Sabres had great success, landing in the semi-finals of two major tournaments in Peterborough and the Flamborough Early Bird tournament.

It looks like a great season ahead.
